| Q | What is the difference between SDRAM and DDR memory? |
| A | SDRAM (single dynamic randomn access memory) is the older style of memory with 2 notches on the stick. The speed of SDRAM is either 100 or 133 MHz (older SDRAM was 66 MHZ - do not mix with pc133 memory !)
DDR (double dynamic rate) memory has only 1 notch. The DDR memory will read twice (double) as much information as the SDRAM - the speed of DDR is from 266 to 400 MHz |

| Q | How can I make my computer go faster? |
| A | Generally speaking, the speed of a computer depends upon 3 factors - first is the amount of memory, then the amount of free space on your hard drive and finally the speed of your processor (CPU). Recommended minimum amount of memory (RAM) is 128 MB for Windows 9x and 256 MB for Windows XP Your hard drive should have a minimum of 20% free space (see properties of the hard drive)

| Q | What is a "firewall" and do I need one ?
|
| A | A combination hardware and software buffer that many companies or people have in place between their internal networks and the Internet. A firewall allows only specific kinds of messages from the Internet to flow in and out of the internal network. This protects the internal network from intruders or hackers who might try to use the Internet to break into those systems.
If you are on a network that is always connected, you should have a firewall - either a software firewall (Norton, Windows XP, Zone Alarm) or preferably a hardware firewall (router - wired or wireless) |

| Q | What is "hyper threading" ? |
| A | Hyper-Threading is a technology developed by Intel to make a single Pentium 4 processor appear, for all intents and purposes, as two processors to the operating system and subsequent applications. When we think of programs, applications, and games, we rarely think of them in the form of threads, or strings of data, fed to the processor to produce what we actually see on our monitor.
In essence, it simultaneously processes dual tasks allowing both tasks to be completed at once, instead of having to wait for one to finish first.
